*NEW*Update for Year End Banquet

The Nape hockey League has decided to have a full League banquet this year. We are excited, as this will be the first such event since Covid. Due to some logistical issues, the banquet will take place on July 15 at the Geraldine Rubia Centre on Shaw Street. We are asking for a minimum $10 donation at the door, to be forwarded on to the Rubia Centre to aid them in the wonderful work they do.

Your team reps will be in touch, as we are hoping to get an indication of how many players are going to be attending.

* New League Champs Crowned*

Congratulations to Bellman’s on winning the League Championship on Sunday night with a 9-6 victory over Vail’s, in a hard fought series that went the distance.

*NEW* Josh Nolan Memorial Award

The NAPE Hockey League is announcing the establishment of the Josh Nolan Memorial Playoffs Point Leader Award, starting for the 2022-2023 season playoffs. This award will be given annually to the player that scored the most points throughout the playoffs for the season, total goals and assists.

The award is named in memory of Josh Nolan, a member of the NAPE hockey league in 2021-2022 season who scored the most points in the playoffs that year. In his approach to the game Josh demonstrated passion, enthusiasm and a competitive spirit, stepping up his play when the team needed him. Tragically Josh passed away August 2022, but he leaves behind a legacy of enthusiasm, sportsmanship and skill. Josh loved the game, and his former teammates and the NAPE league are proud to celebrate his memory and legacy each year through this award.

The winner will be recognized at the NAPE end of season awards ceremony and their name will be added to the Josh Nolan Memorial Trophy.

RIP Leo McCann

In the fall of 1971, a group of government employees met to set up a hockey league to replace the government team, the Provincials, in the Civil Service league. Leo McCann was one of those employees and served on the executive for a number of years. He played until about the mid 1990s. For a number of years there was an award named after him to recognize contribution to the league. He will always be remembered for the unofficial rule named after him.  You need to score a goal to return to play the next year. Anytime I talked to him, he asked how the league is doing. Leo McCann passed away March 30, 2022, aged 82.
