2020 Pre-season Update

As the League enters our 50th season we find ourselves in a volatile situation due to Covid 19. We need full cooperation from ALL players to ensure the league runs as smoothly as possible. There is still some uncertainty surrounding ice time and we will provide updates as we get them.

What we do know is that Feildian Gardens has moved our Sunday night slot to 10:00pm. We are still waiting to hear from Mile One about ice time for this season plus we are looking at other options.

Coronavirus Precautions

For those of you who have not skated since Covid the rink experience will be very different. Doors to the rinks are locked and we are only permitted to enter the building 15 minutes before our ice time. We must vacate the building 15 minutes after we exit the ice. There will be no beer allowed on site. We will have dressing room access however social distancing rules must be followed in dressing rooms and on the bench. Masks must be worn at all times when entering and exiting the building. We also have to submit a list of players who are skating each night in case contact tracing has to occur.

Failure to adhere to these rules will result in us losing our ice time. If you have any questions contact the executive and we will try to answer your concern as best we can.

Remember we are all in this together, and must cooperate to ensure our league survives through the pandemic.

Executive Update

Our executive is similar to last year though Greg will be stepping out of his role as vice president. We welcome Jon Walsh to the board.

President: Chris Leaman
Vice President: Jon Walsh
Tresurer: Stef Barnes
Secretary: TJ Duffenais

2020 Preseason Update

AGM date is set at Monday, Sept 28th. Site to be determined. At least one board member will be stepping down so a seat is open for an election.

With Covid this year there will be a lot of adjustments.

Sunday night ice time at Feildian Gardens will now be at 10:00pm. This allows time between skates for proper sanitization.

It is possible there will only one game per week. We are awaiting response from Mile One but if their ice time is available to us we expect the similar Covid rules to Feildian.

Covid rules include:

  • Doors are locked until 15 minutes before ice time.
  • Must be out 15 minutes after ice time.
  • Dressing rooms are available but with social distancing.
  • Benches are also socially distant.
  • No showers and no beer allowed in dressing rooms.
  • Masks must be worn everywhere except dressing rooms and benches.
  • All rules must be strictly adhered to. Failure to do so could result in the leagues loss of ice time.

Coronavirus Updates

We have received updates from both of our arenas. As of right now, and this information may change as things are updating quickly, Feildian Gardens will remain open for private skates but Mile One is closing for all skates.

Our Sunday skates will continue as scheduled and we are working to reschedule our Monday skates. As of this moment it looks as if the Monday skates will be added to the end of the schedule.

Our top priority has been and continues to be player safety. If you attend the games we ask that you take any and all necessary precautions to prevent spreading any germs. Wash your hands for at least twenty seconds, cover your face when coughing and sneezing, and stay home when you do not feel well.

Here is a message from the management staff at Feildian:

As you are aware, countries worldwide are dealing with the outbreak of COVID-19. The Safety of you and your team/group members is our highest priority. According to the latest information from the Department of Health, the immediate risk of being exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19 is thought to be extremely low in Newfoundland.

I’m sure you’ve heard by now, our provincial association (HockeyNL) has suspended all sanctioned events. Just to clarify, most privately ran groups do not fall under this jurisdiction, so until such time that local health care professionals deem it unsafe we will continue to operate business as usual.

Keeping that in mind and safety at the forefront, we are working closely with our cleaning company and have increased our cleaning schedule to include; frequently disinfecting handrails (inside and out), shower attachments, change room hangers & door openers. We also would urge you (the group leader) to share information with your respective members. It would be wise to contact your group members (especially those who have recently travelled) to determine if anyone is feeling unwell or suffering from flu-like symptoms. If so, please insist they not participate until medically cleared.

Please see the attached information for preventative measures and guidelines. Rest assured, we are monitoring this very closely and will continue to update you as new information comes available.

If you have any questions, please call the provincial Healthline at 811 or TTY 1-888-709-3555.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
